The bag carries memories for every generation; PIET BREINHOLM’s combined showroom and office in central Copenhagen is small, but so charming that most by-passers stop and look twice. The sight of the leather bags and archive boxes is almost as remarkable as the smell of leather, tradition and old memories.



Quality and ethics go hand in hand

The traditional school bag was out of production for years. In 2004, PIET BREINHOLM succeeded in finding one of the original Danish leather manufacturers, which has employed rehabilitated workers since 1954. The choice to use this manufacturer for THE LAST BAG was not a coincidence; it was one of quality and ethics. And as the production manager of the manufacturing factory in 1962 said to the local newspaper:

- We might not work in the same tempo as manufacturers in the free marked. Instead we have an advantage on quality. The work here cannot really be characterized as factory work – every single individual considers it a personal satisfaction to do things in the best possible way.



The leather for THE LAST BAG comes from outdoor cattle and is treated at a Brazilian tannery also established in 1954. The award-winning tannery is known for its eco-friendliness and is among the five cleanest tanneries worldwide seen as 98,98 % of the wastewater is cleansed.



A broad range of bags

PIET BREINHOLM is in fact more than THE LAST BAG. It is a universe, rather, which has been expanded into a line of Canvas bags, which carries the familiar design from THE LAST BAG – in a different material and, thus, a totally different expression. There are several other projects under way in the name of PIET BREINHOLM, and it safe to say that all of them will be characterized by legitimacy, quality, naivety and simplicity.
