Gundara | Handmade Leather Bags and Crafts Traded in a Fair Trade Way from Afghanistan and Central Asia
Gundara is a label from Berlin, Germany, that designs leather items - such as handbags, messenger bags, travel bags, accessories etc. - handmade in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Fair Trade
Gundara is a small start-up company that was established in July 2009. Gundara proudly contributes to the income of more than 10 Afghan households on a regular basis.
With very few exceptions Gundara buys its products directly from Afghan producers in Kabul.
The heart of Gundara is the handmade leather bags that combine Central Asian traditions with contemporary design and savoir vivre. Gundara leather bags are handmade with great care and attention to detail, employing skills of Afghan women and men.
The Concept
Gundara aims to preserve the multi-faceted Afghan cultural heritage rooted in Pashtun, Tajik, Kyrgyz, Hazara etc. traditions and to give a positive image of Afghanistan abroad.
Gundara uses delicate handmade embroideries and brightly coloured traditional chopan fabric, in combination with high quality leather to create these strikingly unique and well finished leather bags.
Through Gundara you can promote fair trade and make a direct contribution to the reconstruction and self-finding process Afghanistan is currently going through. Buying Gundara artifacts means buying Afghan, sustaining the Afghan economy and increasing awareness for the fact that high-quality artifacts can be produced in Afghanistan.
