Charlie May was born and raised in Devon, South West England, and later moved to Bristol to study Fashion Design at UWE. During her studies Charlie interned for Louise Goldin, followed by a move to London where she held a one year tenure with Thomas Tait.
In 2011 Charlie founded her own eponymous womenswear label, showcasing 10 looks to key fashion press for S/S12 as well as a short fashion film. September 2012 saw her first solo catwalk show for S/S13, a runway show which received swift industry recognition and paved the way for seasonal shows during LFW, the two most recent of which saw collaborative projects with Hudson Shoes, New York based milliner Gigi Burris and London-based knitwear brand Eleven Everything.
With a seasonal runway collection, successful ecommerce platform and International distribution points, Charlie quickly adopted a unique business model which emphasised digitally driven support via her eponymous blog Girl A La Mode. With a global network of power bloggers in support of Charlie’s RTW brand, both the brand and Charlie’s personal profile have equally grown to an international cult status.
Charlie May and Girl A La Mode have generated global press recognition including Vogue.com, Vogue Italia, Tank, AnOther magazine, L’Officiel, Elle, and Marie Claire. Participating in various collaborative and consultancy projects have played an integral part in creating the Charlie May brand, the most recent of which saw Charlie collaborate with the latest issue of POP for the relaunch of their site, in collaboration with YOOX for POPSHOPPING.
