Sophie Hulme was born and raised in North London where she discovered not only a profound and ongoing love for Arsenal football club, but also drawing, painting and collecting.
‘I’ve always collected things that have gone on to influence my designs such as gold antique charms, action man uniforms, antique leather writing pouches or old plastic toys. My obsession with collecting began when my nan gave me a charm bracelet as a child and encouraged me to add to it. I began to look at things in a new way and started to collect objects I found pleasing, whether aesthetically or functionally, or simply because I found them fun.’
Sophie’s love of art and design led her to Kingston University to study Fashion, where she went on to win “Student of the Year” and “Best Collection” before graduating in 2007.
Following unanimous acclaim for her final collection, Sophie went on to start her eponymous British accessories brand. Her beautiful accessories are sold globally and are known for their clean and sophisticated designs, gold hardware and surprising playful details. She still draws inspiration from her now extensive collections of whimsical objects and each season she creates a charm to proudly hang from the signature gold-plated hardware on her handbags.
Sophie has since gone on to win the highly prestigious British Fashion Award for Emerging Talent in Accessories in 2012 and her line is stocked at multiple retailers worldwide. These include Selfridges, NET-A-PORTER, Liberty, Harrods and Harvey Nichols in the UK as well as Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, Opening Ceremony, Le Bon Marche and On Pedder internationally.
Sophie still supports Arsenal.
