HISTORY
How often do you encounter a story that attracts your immediate attention? A tale that fascinates you and urges you to find out what became of the people that created it? How big are the odds that a tiny narrative makes big changes in the course of the path you choose in life? Yet it occurs inconspicuously all the time, just as it happened to me when I first heard of the history Penn&Ink.
The story begins back in the sixties in Brooklyn NY, and it all starts with a joint venture between a young and rebellious fashion designer and a son born from a family of prominent tailors. Maureen J. Penn and Stanley Ink met, and a new brand was born. Penn&Ink: It’s a name worth remembering.
Maureen created media attention with her cutting-edge designs but she lacked all the savviness to create a healthy company. Whatever she got her herself into, left her with more financial debt than the banks would carry. Stanley on the other hand had all the business sense but no creative design skills whatsoever. It was a match, tailor-made in fashion heaven…
Their first collaborative collection was a massive success. Solid craftsmanship combined with modern and trendsetting designs in women’s clothing was an unexplored area and evidently a niche had been found. Penn&Ink designs were soon sought after by high-end fashion editors and attracted major demand. A fashion show in Europe caused their big breakthrough and before long the company outgrew its premises and had to move to bigger headquarters. What happened to the company in the years after can only be speculated upon. No further records were recovered but I believe there is a reason this history has found me. Sometimes you meet destiny and sometimes destiny meets you.
Therefore witness the dutch rebirth of a magnificent brand. Penn&Ink: An authentic collection of European clothes inspired by a small American history. Consider it Bohemian chic fashion, for today’s independent woman who has her own savvy sense of style.
