Claire Goldsmith, the great-granddaughter of Oliver Goldsmith, has stepped out from the comfort of the family brand that she single handily re-launched in 2005, to show that she is worth her own merit in the world of eyewear design. Putting pen to paper, for the first time Claire and the design team she has put together, have created a brand new contemporary eyewear line under her own label to be known as CG (Claire Goldsmith) with her debut collection being aptly called LEGACY.
“I felt very much like the eyes of the world were looking at me, waiting for me to show that not only can I produce some of the highest quality frames available today, but that I could actually design, innovate and create new ones. I think to be taken seriously in this business you need to push forward with new ideas and not just look back at the past. You need to show that you are able to create and not just re-create.”
The re-launch of the OG brand has been a phenomenal success since Claire took the helm 5 years ago. Her vision and passion for eyewear has proven powerful and she has successfully revived the brand and informed the world about one of the most influential families in eyewear design. “The designs we have been reproducing for the past 5 years have been those done by my grandfather and my uncle from over 40 years ago, and whilst they will always have a place in fashion history, I now think that vintage is getting to be an old story. I believe the that the future lies firmly in NEW design and I plan to really push forward now with the support of the talented group of people I have put together to make the modern day Goldsmith dream team!”
Claire is emphatic is that great brands communicate through great design and as such none of her new collection carries any outlandish logos or embellishments. Instead, contoured temples and defined lines are the signature style of ‘Legacy’. This debut collection and every other from her in the future will encapsulate this ethos.
Five years in the making the team behind Claire Goldsmith have developed exquisite production techniques, strong design ideas and a deep passion for making the best eyewear in the world.
