Lara Bohinc's talent for creating products of timeless modernity has made her one of the most innovative and successful designers of her generation.
Born in 1972 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, she studied industrial and graphic design at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts, before coming to London in 1994 to take an MA in Jewellery and Metalwork. Winning a New Generation Design Award in 1997, she launched her own company in the same year. Since 2000 she has also worked as a jewellery design consultant for Cartier.
Bohinc's ability to create work of timeless beauty is rooted in her familiarity with industrial processes. While retaining a deep respect for the traditional principles of her craft, she has drawn on her knowledge of industrial techniques to revitalise jewellery design.
Harnessing such technological processes as photo-etching, laser-cutting and computer design, she has fused modernity of style with classical design to achieve a contemporary yet timeless elegance. With a brand philosophy that celebrates playful juxtapositions of style, Bohinc has created a distinctive, much admired and talked-about range of jewellery and accessories that have become instantly recognised as as design classics.
A mark of her work is versatility. A passionate believer in the universality of good design, she has made the most of opportunities to bridge the divide between jewellery and other fashion items. With the expansion of the Lara Bohinc brand to embrace a whole range of accessories from jewellery, handbags and purses to belts, sunglasses, scarves and shoes she is now fulfilling her goal to create a modern luxury goods house.
Bohinc is also responsible for the brand's image, playing a leading role in the creative direction of its advertising.
