It started in March 2005...Junk Shop burst into the UK to fill a sizeable gap in the market for fun, fresh thinking and (most importantly) affordable clothes. Soon after, in May 2006 we opened our first boutique on the Bohemian retail utopia of West Didsbury (174 Burton Road) and have been constantly spreading our branches at festivals and trade shows since then! Two years ago we moved to central Manchester and have been working hard collaborating with some of the best young, up-and-coming designers to bring you Sustainable fashion that's creative, playful, multi-cultural and distinctive, all made in Manchester. Having developed THREE unique labels by our own in-house design team (Made In The Mill, Jumble and Label of Love) we can guarantee constantly changing and ever evolving looks at the cutting edge of fashion. Our clothes span a range of styles worn from sunrise to sunset by Ravers, Dreamers, Schemers, Urban Hippies, Eco-Warriors, Sci-Fi Queens and Vintage Vixens
In Sept of 2007 we opened a new radical space in the heart of the city. With our finger now firmly on the pulse we have striven to bring to you a completely refreshing retail experience and have attracted attention from newspapers, community projects, Manchester Council, radio and television already. The shop has been lovingly furnished ENTIRELY using recycled or reclaimed materials; suspended spindle shelving, a remoulded fairy liquid bottle counter and walk in wardrobe changing rooms are just a few of the features you'll find. An ethical and inventive shopping experience in a beautiful installation like space makes us one of the few retailers who can genuinely boast of individuality.
