The Philosophy
At the core of Indigofera Prima Jeans is an unswerving dedication to quality, detail and craftsmanship, and an ongoing love affair with denim. The name is a tribute to the color indigo - the very essence of jeans, at the heart of denim manufacturing. Indigofera is the origin - the beginning of all denim - and prima is the ambition, the vision of old-fashioned quality and enduring workmanship.
The Founders
It should come as no surprise that the friends and founders of Indigofera, Johan Soderlund and Mats Andersson, have been active in the international denim industry for decades, reaching a unique depth of knowledge and expertise, and successively carving out their irreducible and uncompromising vision of the dream jean.
A Color and a Brand
Indigofera is a name that pays tribute to the plant at the origin of the luxuriant and vibrant blue quintessential to the classic denim. At a time when the ancient skill and knowledge of natural indigo dyeing is close to lost Indigofera celebrates the history and the people who still devote themselves to this demanding and difficult craft. Japan and India, as well as certain regions in northern Africa still have a vibrant tradition of indigo dyeing - however, the intricate journey from plant to dyestuff makes this age-old method of dyeing fabric extremely exclusive.
The Collection
Indigofera is opening Spring/Summer 2009 with an extensive and well-crafted denim collection. There are 5 denim fits - including 1 girl' s fit. The 5 different washes have a very authentic feel and are made by hand in Italy. The t-shirts come in selected fabrics, and are created with the same attention to detail as the jeans. Shirts follow the indigo concept and are woven with Indigo dyed yarns, making them fade over time. Most of the denim fabrics used are uniquely conceived and woven especially for the collection. Indigofera take pride in working closely with the mills in developing unique weaves, allowing them to influence the distinctive look and quality of their denims down to the very thread. The magnum opus of the collection is a unique limited edition range. This narrow loom red selvage in 100 % natural indigo dye is a super heavy 16 oz! - the dream jean. The revolutionary application of the rope dyeing technique to natural indigo makes the jeans wear in and fade as nicely and idiosyncratically as synthetic-dye jeans while retaining the rich character of a true blue natural indigo jean. This fabric is lovingly dyed and woven in Japan in an incredibly intricate and extremely costly process. Created especially for their launch Indigofera brings you this legendary limited edition - a mere 38 pairs of definitive collector's jeans with this exceptional fabric.
