Gigi Burris Millinery stemmed from the designer’s passionate love of both headwear and unique luxury. Burris’ existing interest in millinery was heightened after studying at Parsons Paris and frequent visits to the old world mercerie shops there. After returning to New York City, she studied under couture milliner Leah Chalfen at Parsons School of Design and then apprenticed with Chalfen in her personal studio. Burris graduated with a BFA from Parsons in 2009, where she was nominated for the Designer of the Year award.
Since 2009, Burris worked directly with clients and stylists on made-to-order couture pieces before the brand began focusing on a seasonal wholesale business in 2011. Gigi Burris Millinery became globally represented in 2013 with top tier multi brand boutiques worldwide. As a sixth generation Floridian, a favorite material is alligator skin, and some of the luxurious skins come from gators captured on family property. She is also known for intricate feather and couture handwork.Burris, 28, resides in New York and her studio is located in the Lower East Side.
Gigi was included in the Forbes 30 under 30 Art and Style list in 2013 and was a CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist in 2014.
