It's no exaggeration to say that Montague Burton, and the company to which he gave his name, revolutionised British men's tailoring, notching up a number of remarkable firsts along the way. Within a decade of launching, Burton was offering made-to-measure suits and overcoats at prices working men could afford. By 1925 Burton was the largest chain of tailoring stores in the world and by 1945 the brand was estimated to be clothing around one-fifth of the British male population.
