As a material scientist and designer, Dr. Stefan Brandt brought accepted textile procedures and techniques into question. His innovations are now considered a revolution in the T-Shirt market.
The maxim of Stefan Brandt was, is and will always be: How to realize the most perfect - not necessarily the most economic - item possible. From these ideals emerge probably the "best t-shirt of the world", to use an expression coined by reknown clients in Europe due to the unique physical characteristics of the garments.
So what is it that makes Stefan Brandt a premier luxury T-Shirt maker?
The T-Shirts and Polos are known by industry insiders above all for gentle manual manufacturing processes and ecologically-friendly “prefit treatment" which ensure that every garment that leaves the factory meets exacting standards of fit, elasticity and durability. This finishing process takes 1-2 weeks extra time and reduces the production capacity, but provide authentic unique sales propositions and new bench marks in the shirt market. The techniques are ecologically friendly and representative of Stefan Brandt’s commitment to being green.
Unique sales propositions
Stefan Brandt is one of the only apparel brands that has completely vertically integrated the process. With its mill partners, Brandt buys finest Pima Cotton, which comprises 100% of its collection. It is the finest, extra long staple cotton that can be used to make T-Shirts. The cotton yarn from Peru is transported to the company's own plant in
Ecuador for weaving, dyeing and a special gentle 15 step finishing process,
which converts the knit fabric in something never seen before. Due to elaborate handmade techniques and an "organic prefit-treatment” - with water, vapour and heat, in a closed system at 130 degrees, without use of any chemicals - Stefan Brandt achieves a number of unique characteristics, setting new bench marks in the textile industry. As a main result, the shirts have an unreached elasticity and dimension stability, do not shrink even in the dryer at high temperatures and all colors can be washed at 95°C without fading. The extraordinary natural elasticity and recovery is due to gentle manual techniques, which avoid localized stress fields and distensions in the fabric at any moment in all processes. These multiple microscopic stress field reductions all over the fabric can be felt immediately, when wearing the "unstressed" shirt. The garments cling perfectly to the body, even without elastane and stay dimensionally stable after washing. Due to the extra long staple pima cotton “south American silk”) the garments are practically wrinkle free.
As all this creativity is useless without an outstanding craftmanship, the
company is known for paying attention to sophisticated manufacturing details and designs.
LATEST INNOVATIONS
The last innovations are from 2014, introducing a 33% finer pima cotton yarn and knitting it in an extraordinarily high densitiy.
Since 2014, Stefan Brandt collections cover a range that goes further than the iconic T-Shirts. Fundamental components of men's looks, along with a women's line are produced, applying the sophisticated manual and prefit processes now also to woven fabrics in linen, cotton and silk. The result is a new era of comfort with finest classic dress shirts, deconstructed men jackets and women blouses.
